Preventive, Integrative and Holistic Cardiology Boulder / Denver
Heart disease can be prevented most of the time. Arterial plaque can be stopped or reversed but it usually takes more than a statin to do this. On average statins only prevent about 26% of heart attacks, at best.
About Dr. Steve Parcell: I spent 4 years writing a book on the prevention of heart attack and stroke that was published in 2012. The book "Dare to Live" won editor's choice. It can be found here.
This is why I am interested in heart disease prevention. I had a heart scan in 2003 that told me I was in the 91st percentile regarding plaque in my coronary arteries (way worse than average). I became very interested in cardiology when I discovered that I was following in my dad's footsteps. My dad had atherosclerosis and hypertension. He died of a heart attack in 1974 at the age of 47. Since 2003 I have been reversing plaque in my patients and preventing heart attack and stroke. I am located in Boulder at the NatureMed Integrative Medicine Clinic. The address is 5330 Manhattan Circle, suite B, Boulder, CO. Preventive Cardiology is my main specialty but I also do Men's health and standard naturopathic medicine.
The primary cause of heart attacks is atherosclerosis which is a disease of the artery wall. Coronary artery disease is a condition that involves the arteries that supply the heart. When a plaque in an artery becomes too big it can block blood flow to the heart, or, when one of these plaques ruptures a clot can form which can cause a heart attack or stroke. Coronary artery disease often has no symptoms until your first heart attack. This is why early screening is so important. I will help you stabilize or reverse the buildup of plaque in your arteries. I practice naturopathic cardiology which is holistic, preventive and mostly natural. I have received most of my advanced training from the National Lipid Association Certification Program, Mark Houston, MD (Hypertension Institute) and by rigorous study.
Many of my patients in Boulder are looking for alternatives to prescription drugs, especially statins like Lipitor, Crestor and Zocor which I am not against but here are ways to lower blood pressure and cholesterol without drugs. If prescriptions are necessary I do not hesitate to recommend them and will refer to out in-house medical doctor for this. Patients with severe disease can benefit from medications but the benefit must be greater than the risk. I also work with a number of Boulder/ Denver based cardiologists and vascular surgeons.
